John Rankin

John has had a life long interest in leadership study, theory and practice.

His leadership roles have included: Vice President Human Resources Nortel, President George Brown College and Senior Vice President Dealer Relations Canadian Tire Corporation.

Since retiring from conventional work he has served as an interim executive and coach in non-profit sector.

Assignments have included: Executive Director Niagara Institute, Interim President Royal Botanical Gardens, and Executive Director, Ontario Division, Canadian National Institute for the Blind.

John teaches part-time at  McMaster University’s Health Leadership Academy, a partnership of the DeGroote Schools of Business, Health Sciences and Medicine, dedicated to leadership development and research within the healthcare sector. He is a facilitator and program designer in the Emerging Leaders Program.

Over the years, John has served on many non profit boards and Ontario and Federal government advisory committees. Currently he is a member of the board of Central Toronto Youth Services, an organization serving youth and their families covering a range of youth mental health issues.

John’s interests include grandchildren, cottaging, long distance running and U.S. Civil War history. The latter two have led to running races in 44 of the 50 U.S. states and D.C. with a goal of completing them all before returning to the universe.

John has a B.Sc. and an MBA from McMaster University.
