The Michael G. DeGroote Health Leadership Academy (HLA) offers a portfolio of 2021 leadership programming for aspiring and current health leaders that focuses on learning, and unlearning, the necessary skills to navigate and adapt to our ever-changing health environment.

HLA’s leadership programming includes Emerging Leaders, Pathfinder, and the new Shift programs. Participants who complete Emerging Leaders and Pathfinder can apply it towards their Certified Health Executive (CHE) credential. Applications are now open.

Emerging Leaders

Gain the skills to lead across the health system

Emerging Leaders is a one-week intensive leadership foundations program for students and young professionals looking to gain the skills to lead across the health system.

  • Tailored to senior undergraduates and recent graduates
  • Offered virtually: May 2-9 and August 15-22, 2021

Pathfinder

Chart your leadership journey in an applied leadership development program with personalized coaching

Pathfinder is an eight-week personalized leadership development program to build the leadership capabilities of health leaders.

  • Tailored to health leaders, young professionals and post-doctoral/graduate students
  • Offered virtually: Apr-Jun and Sept-Nov 2021

Shift

Design and build new health futures

Shift is a three month virtual, experiential, project-based program which introduces conceptual and practical approaches to design thinking for health leadership.

  • Tailored to health leaders, young professionals and post-doctoral/graduate students

Sean Park, PhD, Assistant Professor, Medicine at McMaster University and Nicole Knibb, MDes, Senior Education Officer at the McMaster Museum of Art delivered an interactive workshop where participants experienced a taste of design thinking and strategic foresight. Watch the workshop here:
